Four Special Lovies
Lovies have played a special part in our family over the years. Yesterday, my sister called me to ask if I remembered any stories about her beloved Quack Quack who sadly went missing when she was probably about 5 years old. She has vivid memories with the darling stuffed ducky and he was doubtless an unforgettable character for the entire family, as she and her duck were not to be parted for the better part of two or three years. I couldn't recall much in the way of stories for I simply remember how attached they were. He even has a cameo in her "single" portrait on the family wall of fame in my grandparents house. And so the duck goes down in history.
I had my own "Quack Quack" I suppose, although he was a rabbit and his name was "Bunny". We were incredibly original thinkers, like most children, you can see 😉 Bunny is pictured below, much worn and mended by my grandmother at least twice, if not three times. I remember the sinking and abiding sense of depression, probably for the first time, when bunny's stuffing broke through his pants. My kind grandmother was happy to help (we had recently moved back to their home in Kansas, so this skill in mending was new and wonderful to me), and when he needed a whole outfit upgrade she somehow found time amongst all her mending and sewing to transform him from his original purple and yellow trousers to what you see below. And so, a beloved treasure was mended and it didn't take long for the new normal to become just as beloved. Though Bunny appears front and center, the peripheral lovies are incredibly dear to me, as well. On the left is a sweet checked red and blue horse stuffy with grey mane and a little cloth saddle and little black button eyes that was made for me by the widow of my late mentor and friend out of one of his old riding shirts. Too special to let the children play over, this lovey resides with the others, usually on the shelf of my bedside stand and occasionally on our bed. Finally, on your right, observe "Peanut Butter," who was a gift from Wesley on my 28th birthday. Our oldest son is incredibly generous, he loves gift giving and I couldn't say no to his thoughtful present of one (of his many, many) beloved stuffies. My child is already more creative in naming things than myself, and the name is kind of comical to me considering that peanut butter is the only substance we know of that he is allergic to! 😅
There you have it, a tale of 4 lovies!
